2026 Drone Regulation Update – Stay Updated!
New UK Drone Regulations Coming in from the 1st January 2026, two important updates to UK drone law will take effect. These changes are part of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) ongoing effort to improve airspace safety and accountability for all drone users.
Heres what you need to know:
- Flyer ID for Drones Over 100g: Anyone flying a drone that weighs more than 100g will be required to hold a valid Flyer ID. This is the CAA’s online competency certificate that shows you understand the current Drone and Model Aircraft Code. If you already have a Flyer ID, simply make sure it’s current before you fly. New pilots can apply and take the online test through the CAA’s registration service.
- The introduction of Remote ID Functionality: Certain drones will also need to broadcast a Remote ID signal while in flight. Remote ID allows a drone to transmit basic identification and flight information such as location, altitude and operator ID to help authorities verify that the aircraft is operating safely and legally. Many new drones will have this technology built in, and retrofit options are expected for older models.
